This two-day training focuses on three main components of trails preservation: monitoring, mapping, and marking trails.

Nevada Chapter - Virgin River, Muddy River, St. Thomas Field Trip and Annual Meeting
Date: Saturday, May 12, 2007
Time: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm (Nevada Daylight Time)
Place: Muddy River/Virgin River confluence near Lake Mead. Email your reservation and you will be notified concerning the exact meeting location
Description: We will be following part of the path-breaking Antonio Armijo path of 1829-1830. This portion of the trail has been covered by Lake Mead for the last 40 years - but the drought that plagues Las Vegas Valley brings with it a bonus for us - a chance to see this historic junction.  Another drought bonus is that the historic Mormon town of St. Thomas also has emerged from the lake, and we will be visiting that site as well.

Our leader will be Eva Jensen, Archaeologist with the Lost City Museum in Overton.  She will take us on a 3-mile walking tour of St. Thomas.  Please bring water, snacks, sunscreen and dress appropriately (boots, hats, long sleeves, etc.) for hiking through the tamarisk to St. Thomas.  Due to the river and the tamarisk, it will be humid, as well as hot.

From St. Thomas we’ll drive to Overton Beach Marina, which has closed due to drought conditions affecting Lake Mead.  But, there are still picnic tables and restrooms and a beautiful view of the junction of the Virgin and Muddy Rivers.  Here we’ll have lunch and take a few minutes to conduct a short business meeting, including elections to the positions required to operate a non-profit organization in Nevada AND to remain a viable chapter of the national Old Spanish Trail Association.
